Telegram Login Code Not Arriving? Here's Where It Actually Went

Most of the time the code wasn't lost — Telegram delivered it somewhere you didn't look. Pick your situation and work the delivery order for your own number.

Dead ends and the way forward

Telegram login-code delivery — for a number that IS yours

✗ Waiting for an SMS that never comesIf you're logged in on any other device, Telegram delivers the code in-app to that session and generates no SMS at all.
→ Open Telegram on your other device and read the code in the 'Telegram' service chat (Settings > Devices shows your active sessions).
✗ Requesting a new code over and overRapid re-requests trigger a flood-wait cooldown that temporarily blocks every delivery channel.
→ Stop, let the timer run down (minutes up to about a day), then request a single code; check current limits by messaging @SpamBot.
✗ Letting a 'support agent' or bot send or read your codeNo one at Telegram — and no real bot or support line — ever needs your login code; reading it out hands over your account.
→ Enter the code yourself, only on the official Telegram login screen, and never share, forward or screenshot it.
✗ Trying to receive the login code by emailLogin codes are never emailed — email is used only as an optional 2FA recovery hint, not for logging in.
→ Use in-app, SMS or voice-call delivery; if you set Two-Step Verification, look for the recovery-email hint on the cloud-password screen.
✗ Entering the number without the correct country codeA missing, wrong, or auto-guessed country code routes the code to a different number entirely.
→ Re-enter in full international format and pick the correct country from Telegram's list before requesting the code.
✗ Using a third-party 'code bypass' or 'unlocker' toolThere is no legitimate way to skip the login code — these are scams or malware built to steal the account.
→ Resolve delivery only through Telegram's own official channels described on this page.

We do

  • ✓ Explain where Telegram delivers your code, in priority order
  • ✓ Point you to the exact settings paths (Devices, Active Sessions, Two-Step Verification)
  • ✓ Help you clear flood-wait, number-format and signal problems
  • ✓ Show the official reset and appeal routes for your own account

We never

  • ✗ Ask you to share, forward, dictate or screenshot your login code
  • ✗ Generate, intercept or 'pull' a login code for you
  • ✗ Bypass or remove Two-Step Verification / a cloud password
  • ✗ Touch any account, chat or number that isn't yours

No one — not Telegram, not a bot, not 'support', not us — EVER needs your login code. Anyone asking you to share, forward, dictate or screenshot it is taking over your account.

FAQ

Why is my Telegram login code not arriving by SMS?
The most common reason is that you're still logged in somewhere else. Telegram delivers the code IN-APP to an existing session first and sends no SMS at all in that case — so open Telegram on your other phone, tablet or desktop and read the code in the 'Telegram' service chat. If there is no other session, SMS should follow; if it doesn't, suspect a flood-wait cooldown, a wrong country code, weak signal, or carrier SMS filtering.
Where does Telegram send the login code, and in what order?
In strict priority: (1) in-app to any device already logged into your account, (2) an SMS to your number if no session exists, and (3) an automated voice call that dictates the code, which you can request once the on-screen SMS timer counts down. Email is never a login-code channel — it only holds an optional 2FA recovery hint.
Can you retrieve, generate or read out my login code for me?
No — and that request is exactly the takeover method we refuse. No one, including us, Telegram, any bot or any 'support' agent, ever needs your login code, and we never generate, intercept or ask for it. We only help YOU regain access to YOUR OWN account through Telegram's official channels. Anyone who asks you to share, forward, dictate or screenshot a code is hijacking the account, not helping you.
It says 'Too many attempts' — what should I do?
You've hit a flood-wait cooldown: a temporary limit, not a ban. Stop requesting codes, wait out the timer (anywhere from a few minutes to about a day), then ask for a single code. You can message @SpamBot from another chat to see whether any limits currently apply to your account.
The code appeared in the 'Telegram' service chat — is that safe?
Yes, that's Telegram's normal in-app delivery to a session you're already signed into. Type it into the login screen yourself and then leave it there — never read it aloud, forward it, paste it into another chat, or send it to anyone claiming to be support, even if they seem to already know your account.
I still can't get a code at all — what are my official options?
Request the voice call, double-check the number is in full international format with the right country, toggle airplane mode / confirm signal, and make sure the SIM for that number is actually in the phone. If the number itself is gone, see lost-number recovery. As a final resort you can start Telegram's 7-day account reset, which deletes the account and its cloud chats before letting you re-register; termination or appeal questions go to [email protected].

Get back into your own account — safely

Nine times out of ten the code is exactly where the delivery order says it should be: in your existing session first, then SMS, then a voice call. Work it in that order, watch for the flood-wait timer, and fix the number format before you retry. And hold this line no matter who contacts you: your login code is the one thing you never share, forward, dictate or screenshot — anyone asking for it is trying to take the account, not return it.
