Telegram account recovery

Forgot Your Telegram Password? It's the Cloud Password — Here's How to Recover It

Telegram has no ordinary account password. The 'password' you're hitting is the optional Cloud Password — what Telegram calls Two-Step Verification. Pick your situation and we'll point you at the exact screen.

We never ask for or receive your password or your login code. Official Telegram steps only.

Your own account only
Every step here recovers the account you own, through Telegram's own screens — nothing else.
We never see your secrets
We never ask for or receive your Cloud Password, your login code, or anything in your recovery inbox.
No 'remover' tools
We don't bypass, crack, brute-force, or 'remove' a Cloud Password — tools that claim to are scams or malware.
Official channels only
We point solely to the Telegram apps, t.me, @SpamBot, and [email protected].
Nothing to retain
This is guidance, not a login service — there's no account of yours for us to store or access.

Cross-check any step against Telegram in-app at Settings > Privacy and Security > Two-Step Verification.

How it works

  1. 1
Enter your phone number on the new device
Telegram sends a one-time login code — first to any existing in-app session, then by SMS, then by call.
⏱ under 1 minute · The login code arrives and you type it in.
  2. 2
You hit the Cloud Password prompt
After the login code, Telegram asks for your Two-Step Verification password before finishing sign-in.
⏱ instant · A password field with a 'Forgot password?' link beneath it.
  3. 3
    Tap 'Forgot password?'
Telegram shows a masked hint of your recovery email and offers to send a reset link there.
⏱ instant · A hint like a•••@g•••.com appears so you know which inbox to open.
  4. 4
    Open the recovery inbox
A Telegram message with a recovery code or reset link arrives; check spam and promotions if it's slow.
⏱ 1–10 minutes typical · An email about recovering your account / a reset code, from Telegram.
  5. 5
Enter the code and set a new password
Confirm the recovery code, choose a fresh Cloud Password, and re-add a recovery email you control.
⏱ 1–2 minutes · Telegram accepts the new password and completes login.
  6. 6
    You're back in
Your cloud chats and media sync down to the device — nothing is deleted.
⏱ seconds to a few minutes to sync · Chats, media and settings reload as normal.

This recovery-email route has no 7-day wait and deletes nothing. Waiting and deletion only apply to the separate account-reset path used when there is no recovery email.

Recover your Cloud Password in 4 steps

1
Reach the password screen
Log in on your device with the one-time code until Telegram asks for the Two-Step Verification password.
2
Tap 'Forgot password?'
It sits directly under the password field — note the masked recovery-email hint it displays.
3
Open the recovery email
Find Telegram's reset message in that exact inbox (check spam), then copy the code or open the link.
4
Set a new password
Enter the recovery code, create a new Cloud Password, and add a recovery email you actually control.

Have ready: access to your phone number for the login code, and access to the recovery email inbox you used when turning on Two-Step Verification.

The words Telegram uses here aren't obvious — this is what each one actually means.

Cloud Password
Telegram's only password — the optional secret you set yourself. It's requested on new-device logins, in addition to the one-time login code.
Two-Step Verification
The menu name for the Cloud Password feature: Settings > Privacy and Security > Two-Step Verification.
Login code
The one-time code that actually signs you in — sent to an existing session first, then SMS, then a call. This is not a password.
Recovery email
The optional address you attach to your Cloud Password; the 'Forgot password?' screen sends your reset link to it.
Recovery-email hint
The partially masked address (e.g. a•••@g•••.com) Telegram shows so you know which inbox holds the reset.
Active session
A device already logged into your account, listed at Settings > Devices — it keeps working even while you've forgotten the password.

FAQ

I forgot my Telegram password — can you just remove or reset it for me?
No — and no legitimate service can. There is no tool that bypasses, cracks, brute-forces, or 'removes' a Cloud Password; anything advertising a '2FA remover' is a scam or malware. The only real reset is the one you run yourself, on your own account: tap 'Forgot password?' on the login password screen and use the recovery email you set. We never ask for or receive your password or your login code, and we only recover accounts their owner controls.
Wait — does Telegram even have a password?
Not a basic one. Signing in uses your phone number plus a one-time login code (delivered to an existing session first, then SMS, then a call). The only password is the optional Cloud Password — Two-Step Verification — that you choose yourself under Settings > Privacy and Security. If 'forgot password' brought you here, it's almost certainly that Cloud Password.
The recovery email arrived — where do I actually enter the code?
Back on the same login screen where you tapped 'Forgot password?'. Telegram opens a field for the recovery code, or you follow the link inside the email. Enter it, and you'll then be prompted to create a new Cloud Password and, ideally, add a fresh recovery email you control.
I don't have a recovery email set — what now?
Then the 'Forgot password?' route can't help, because there's nowhere for Telegram to send the reset. Your remaining option is Telegram's account reset, which waits 7 days and then deletes the account and its cloud chats. That's a serious trade-off — read our account-reset page before starting it.
How long does the recovery email take to arrive?
Usually within a few minutes, occasionally up to around ten. Check spam and promotions, and confirm you're looking in the exact inbox shown by the masked hint (e.g. a•••@g•••.com). If nothing arrives at all, the address on file may be one you no longer control — that becomes the email-lost case.
Will resetting my Cloud Password delete my chats?
No. The recovery-email reset only replaces the password — your cloud chats stay and sync back down once you finish logging in. Deletion happens only on the separate 7-day account-reset path, which is a different process for people who have no recovery email.

Recover your own Cloud Password, the safe way

If you set a recovery email, you're minutes from back in: reach the password screen, tap 'Forgot password?', and use the masked hint Telegram shows you. No 7-day wait, no deletion, and no 'remover' tool — those are scams or malware, and we never ask for your password or login code. If there's no recovery email on file, don't force it; the account-reset path is slower and destructive, and it's worth understanding before you begin.
